The organizing committee selects about ten finalists among the start-ups that have applied. The selected and non-selected start-ups are notified.

The 10 selected start-ups will present themselves in five minutes in front of the participants of the Smart Energy Event.

All start-ups (founded in 2014 and after, or in creation) having developed (or being in the process of developing) a product or service directly related to energy can apply. Start-ups can be domiciled in Switzerland or abroad.

For the selection of the finalists, the Smart Energy Event organizing committee will select about ten start-ups based on the following criteria:
-
- innovative nature of the product or service
- commercial potential of the product or service
- maturity of the innovation (pilots/completed or ongoing projects)
- references
- Demonstrated ability to deliver a quality pitch
The decision of the organizing committee, which is made up of representatives of The Ark Foundation and CleantechAlps, cannot be appealed.
For the Best Pitch Award, a panel of experts will judge the following:

- dynamism of the presentation
- quality of the presentation material (slides)
- clarity of messages and understanding of how to solve the challenge
For the Best Energy Innovation Award, the jury will focus on:
-
- the economic potential of the proposed innovation
- technical feasibility
- the quality of the response to the energy challenge
For the Public’s Favourite:
-
- Smart Energy Event participants will have the opportunity to evaluate and score the presentations according to their own criteria and via a web application. The best average wins. The best average wins.
The decisions of the jury, composed of energy and public speaking specialists, as well as those of the public, will not be subject to appeal.
